Guangdong Youth Federation was founded on 4th May, 1954, and it was called Guangdong Federation of Democratic Youth. In May 1965, the name of the federation was changed to Guangdong Youth Federation in the Third Conference of Youth Representatives of Guangdong. Guangdong Youth Federation is a united front organization of youth of all ethnic groups from all walks of life. It is one of the basic associations of the people in Guangdong and a member organization of the All-China Youth Federation.
Guangdong Youth Federation adopts a collective membership system and is made up jointly by provincial youth organizations and those in the cities. There are now 40 collective members: 4 basic association members which are Guangdong Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, Guangdong Union of Students, YMCA of Guangdong, YWCA of Guangdong; 14 subordinate youth association members, such as Young Volunteers Association of Guangdong, Association of Youth Entrepreneurs in Guangdong, Youth Scientists’ Association of Guangdong, Young Photographers’ Institute of Guangdong; as well as 22 youth organizations at city level.
The term of the committee of the youth federation is five years. The Eighth Committee of Guangdong Youth Federation was set up in 2000, and currently has 762 commissaries, including 52 specially invited commissaries from Hong Kong SAR, 23 from Macao SAR, and one chairman, 24 vice-chairmen, 111 standing commissaries. The incumbent chairman is Mr. Deng Haiguang. The chairman, vice-chairmen and standing commissaries are elected by the plenary session. When the Provincial Committee is not in session, the Standing Committee presides over the work of Guangdong Youth Federation. The Standing Committee has a secretariat. The secretariat conducts the day-to-day work of Guangdong Youth Federation and assistant chairman and vice-chairmen to execute affairs of the federation.
